Fredericksburg Audio Tour & Guidebook Features

The TravelBrains audio tour and guidebook will take you on a chilling tour of one of the Civil War's most bloody and tragic locations. It is a small stretch of what was once an old country road that had been worn down into the Virginia countryside….now known as the infamous Sunken Road and The Stonewall. On the afternoon of December 13, 1862 seven Union infantry divisions threw themselves at the Confederate defenses along the Sunken Road at the base of Marye's Heights. At the end of the day 12,600 Federals were killed, wounded or missing across the entire battlefield. In contrast, the Confederates casualties numbered around 5,300. Most of these were victims of Meade's brief breakthrough on the Confederate right. Not a single Union soldier had reached the Stonewall, dead or alive.

Battle maps, famous historical photographs and sketches help you imagine just what happened here on a crisp winter's day in 1862. The multimedia tour is a hallmark of TravelBrains and an absolute necessity to truly understand the history of this great battle.
